With the success of their QLD and Northern NSW locations, Club Active sought to expand their fitness-for-over-50’s model into Sydney.
With the success of their QLD and Northern NSW locations, Club Active sought to expand their fitness-for-over-50’s model into Sydney. Partnering with PMG, the brief called for creating a comfortable and inspiring environment for their new Castle Hill location, and ensuring the design solutions created a comfortable, safe and inspiring space for the community to get fit, learn and socialise in. Design elements were to be inspired by Club Active’s existing locations, which utilise simple but fresh design elements.
The existing space was a ‘cold shell’ suite with simple, minimal features. The main design challenge PMG needed to resolve was a dark and monotonous corridor leading to the entry of the tenancy space, which in its existing form was a bleak arrival experience. It was critical to the brief that the customer journey was positive and engaging from the corridor to the entry threshold and beyond.
To achieve the core project objective of creating a gym space that catered to the over-50s community, PMG focused on creating a comfortable, safe, and inspiring environment for clients, with fun, functionality, and flexibility at the core.
PMG successfully addressed the main concern of improving the arrival experience by brightening the long corridor with innovative lighting solutions and bold use of colour, creating an engaging feature graphic to align with Club Active’s branding.
Using infographics and lifestyle imagery, the welcoming reception area showcases a sense of community, and introduction of contrasting but complimentary finishes of light timber and tan leather with a blue & grey colour palette ensured a fresh but warm design appropriate for the demographic. Introduction of ample storage ensured the outcome not only looked great but also addressed Club Active’s operational and functional requirements.
Overall, PMG delivered a bright and welcoming design of Club Active Castle Hill, which successfully caters to the over-50s community and exceeded the client’s expectations.
