Egalitarian Design: Views for All, Growth Built In

Design & Build | 413sqm | 20 Staff, Capacity for 36

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Strategic Relocation, Thoughtful Expansion
Broadside Legal engaged PMG to deliver their new office in Melbourne’s legal precinct, relocating to accommodate rapid expansion. With approximately 20 employees and plans for significant growth, the space needed to accommodate 36 workstations whilst maintaining design quality and flexibility.

The brief focused on three key objectives: establish a presence in Melbourne’s legal precinct to support business growth, maximise views for all staff on the work floor, and create a professional, appealing and inviting front of house experience that puts visitors at ease.

DESIGN THAT DEMOCRATISES

Views, Flexibility, and Human Centred Thinking
The design maximises views from every aspect of the space; front of house meeting spaces, work floor, kitchen and breakout. This egalitarian, forward thinking approach ensures every staff member benefits from the building’s outlook, not just those in corner offices. Future proofing was embedded from the start, with meeting spaces designed to convert to offices if needed, supporting the firm’s growth trajectory without costly reconfiguration.

Sit to stand workstations throughout accommodate diverse working preferences. Focus rooms feature low lighting, statement pendants and warm tones, accommodating different working styles, focus work, and neurodiversity. The design maximises the building’s architecture, celebrating its qualities rather than fighting against them.

WARM PROFESSIONALISM

Where Legal Meets Residential Comfort
The front of house space takes a residential inspired approach, making visitors feel comfortable and at ease during what can be stressful times. The balance of formal, elegant, and soft elements creates a style that feels welcoming and contemporary, distinctly different from traditional legal environments.

Quality finishes from trusted suppliers deliver refined execution: Krost furniture throughout, About Space lighting, Shawcontract LVT, Tarkett carpet in front of house areas, GT Built joinery, Rick Tas from Ground Floor Concepts managing complex flooring, and Townscape planting bringing natural warmth.

SMART DELIVERY

Sustainability and Efficiency
Working within the landlord’s incentive required strategic decisions. Existing ceilings were reused, back of house carpet tile retained, and additional mechanical requirements minimised. This sustainability focused approach reduced waste whilst meeting budget parameters. A very uneven slab required heavy grinding and levelling for the LVT runway, a technical hurdle managed through close coordination with flooring specialists.

THE RESULT

Ahead of Schedule, Beyond Expectations

The client loved the layout maximising views and future proofing their business growth. The landlord praised the smooth, efficient process and on budget delivery. The project finished ahead of schedule, allowing PMG to offer early handover.

Broadside Legal’s new office demonstrates how egalitarian design thinking, smart future proofing, and residential warmth can transform a professional services workplace. Views for everyone, flexibility built in, and an environment that genuinely supports both staff wellbeing and client comfort.
