Thirty years. It’s a milestone that invites reflection, but more importantly, it demands honesty about what we’ve learnt, how we’ve evolved, and where we’re heading.
When we began in 1995, as Pro Management Group we didn’t set out to simply build workplaces. We set out to understand our clients problems and solve them. That curiosity, that relentless need to ask the right questions before offering answers, has been our North Star through three decades of transformation.
It Started with a Simple Belief
In 1995, our Managing Director and Owner, John Muhary, founded Pro Management Group on a principle that seemed straightforward but was surprisingly rare: exceptional quality shouldn’t come with exceptional compromise. In 2017, we evolved into PMG group as a connection to our past but a step into our future.
John believed that clients deserved fit outs where quality, value, and timeliness weren’t competing priorities, but complementary outcomes. Where the right expertise sat at the table from the very beginning. Where buildability informed design, and a design-led ethos elevates our delivery of outcomes. Where commitments to timelines and budgets were sacred, not aspirational.
This wasn’t naive optimism. It was a deliberate business model built on discipline, collaboration, and an unwavering focus on solving client challenges rather than simply completing projects.
That founding vision hasn’t wavered in 30 years. It’s been tested, certainly. Refined, absolutely. But never compromised.
What Three Decades Teaches You
The workplace sector has changed dramatically since 1995. Markets have risen and fallen. Technologies have revolutionised how people work. Design trends have come and gone. But through it all, one truth has remained constant: relationships last.

Thirty years has taught us that strategy begins with questions, not answers. What’s working? What isn’t? Where’s the disconnect between leadership’s vision and employees’ reality? We’ve learnt to explore challenges with genuine curiosity, to examine data and observe behaviour until insights crystallise into direction. Understanding first. Solutions second. Always.
It’s taught us that design flourishes through collaboration. When our estimators and designers work as creative partners from day one, magic happens. Aesthetic vision meets buildability. Themes emerge organically. We craft environments where form and function enhance each other, where every element carries meaning woven through thoughtful conversation. Beauty and practicality aren’t opposing forces, they’re creative partners.
And perhaps most crucially, it’s taught us that delivery demands both grit and expertise. We’ve forged our construction knowledge through thousands of projects, through pressure and complexity. We’ve learnt to drive solutions, to catch what others miss, to execute with precision. We deliver on our word because anything less is unacceptable.
But here’s what truly sets apart how we work: we ensure the right people are at the table from the very beginning. Not just project managers reviewing designs after they’re complete. Not just estimators costing someone else’s vision. The people who understand what can be built, how it should be built, and what it will truly cost are collaborating from the first conversation. Entering the Brisbane market was an incredible endeavour that started our national growth. It wasn’t just about opening an office in another city, it was about understanding a new ecosystem, building relationships from the ground up, and proving that our approach to strategy, design, and build could translate beyond our home base. Brisbane taught us that growth requires humility and adaptability whilst staying true to your core principles.
Melbourne brought its own unique challenges and, more importantly, its own incredible opportunities. The addition of our new team members in Melbourne didn’t just expand our geographic footprint, it enriched our culture and deepened our expertise. Different perspectives, different approaches, different strengths, all united under the same unwavering commitment to solving our clients’ challenges.
These weren’t expansions for expansion’s sake. They were purposeful steps towards becoming a truly national partner, capable of delivering the same depth of insight, quality of design, and precision of execution regardless of location.
Raising the Bar for What’s Next
The next 30 years excites us immensely.
We’re not content to simply maintain what we’ve built. We’re driven to reinvent best practice in workplace design and delivery through our unwavering commitment to solving our clients’ challenges in ways that genuinely transform how they work.
What does that look like practically?
It means continuing to push the boundaries of what integrated strategy, design, and build can achieve. It might mean entering new geographies. New countries. Perhaps even new markets. Who knows? The unknown excites us because we’ve spent 30 years building the capability, the relationships, and the reputation to take on challenges that would intimidate others.
