Dual Purpose, Single Vision

Dual Purpose, Single Vision: Training Meets Daily Operations

Design & Build | 240sqm | 25 Staff

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Transforming Spec to Specialised
PMG was engaged by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) to adapt and personalise an existing speculative suite to meet the organisation’s unique operational and training needs. The project required balancing two distinct functions: a flexible training and conferencing facility equipped with the latest AV technology, and a functional office environment to support staff and visiting physicians in their day to day work.

The brief demanded flexibility for multi-purpose training that can adapt for education sessions, presentations, and events, technology integration incorporating state of the art video conferencing and presentation systems to support hybrid learning, and a professional ambience that reflects RACP’s standing as a professional medical body whilst maintaining warmth and accessibility.

DESIGN THAT ADAPTS

From Static Suite to Dynamic Learning Environment
Working within the existing suite layout, PMG reconfigured the space to accommodate both training and office functions seamlessly. The training room became the centre piece, fully equipped with cutting edge AV technology and movable furniture to enable rapid reconfiguration between learning modes, presentations, and collaborative workshops.

The front of house area was designed as a professional yet inviting space for physicians and guests, complete with a catering kitchen and breakout facilities capable of hosting up to 40 attendees. Throughout the design, existing furniture from the speculative suite was reused where suitable, with new custom joinery pieces introduced to complement and extend the existing aesthetic, creating a cohesive, unified environment which met the budget.

TECHNICAL INTEGRATION, SEAMLESS EXECUTION

Making Technology Invisible
Key challenges included aligning the speculative suite’s base build services to accommodate large numbers of people in one space as well as introducing the College’s technology and functional requirements. Through detailed design coordination and close supplier engagement, PMG ensured the final installation met stringent performance and aesthetic expectations, all whilst maintaining programme and budget.
The adaptive multi-functional training room integrates video conferencing and presentation systems invisibly. New mechanical, lighting, and AV upgrades were seamlessly integrated within the speculative base build, proving that technology and aesthetics can coexist without compromise.

SEAMLESS DELIVERY

Coordination and Precision
The 10 metre Ilanel feature was installed using scaffolding combined with a scissor lift, executed with precision. Off the shelf ceiling solutions maintained timeline and budget. Clear communication across trades delivered zero variations and no tenant complaints throughout construction.

THE RESULT

Partnership Built on Trust

Delivered on time and on budget, achieving an elegant, durable, and professional result. But beyond the physical outcome, the project strengthened the client relationship, building trust and positive energy that extends beyond this single delivery.
The RACP Melbourne office now functions as both a productive workplace and a sophisticated training facility, demonstrating how speculative suites can be transformed to serve highly specialised needs. Flexible, connected, and distinctly professional.
