Data Processors
Right-Sizing for Connection: A National Consolidation Strategy
Design & Build | 455sqm | 40+ Staff
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Strategic Downsizing, Cultural Uplift
As part of a national workplace consolidation, Data Processors engaged PMG to design and deliver their new Melbourne office following a strategic relocation. With most of their team now working in hybrid mode, the existing office footprint was no longer efficient. The new 455sqm tenancy offered an opportunity to downsize, refresh the environment, and create a more connected, team oriented workspace, within a tight budget and timeframe.
The brief balanced three key objectives: right-size the office to suit a hybrid workforce while reusing existing furniture and assets, replace isolated private rooms with collaborative, flexible zones that bring departments together, and mirror the look and feel of their NSW office completed by PMG in 2024; modern, welcoming, and on brand.
DESIGN THAT CONNECTS
Softening Geometry, Building Culture
PMG’s design approach balanced practicality with warmth. The angular geometry of the base building was softened through gentle curves, natural timber tones, and layered textures inspired by the company’s national palette. Existing furniture was selectively repurposed, reducing waste and spend, whilst new finishes were chosen for durability and easy maintenance.
To reinforce the company’s vibrant culture, the breakout zone was transformed into a social heart, complete with a snooker table and casual seating for staff downtime. Open departmental zones are supported by quiet focus areas and informal breakout spaces, with enhanced acoustic performance and lighting comfort throughout.
SMART REUSE, STRATEGIC VALUE
Maximising Existing Assets
Repurposed existing workstations and meeting tables maximise value whilst maintaining quality. The selective reuse strategy allowed investment to focus on key cultural spaces and improved amenity, establishing a workplace design framework that can be scaled nationally.
Working closely with the client’s Office Manager, PMG coordinated a seamless transition between sites, minimising downtime and disruption. Strategic staging, supplier negotiation, and close collaboration with PMG’s in house construction team ensured an on time, on budget delivery that reflected the brand and supported a more connected way of working.
THE RESULT
Beyond Delivery, Building Partnership
The project achieved strong client feedback and established an ongoing working relationship for future projects. The Melbourne office now functions as both a productive workspace and a cultural hub, proving that strategic downsizing doesn’t mean compromising on connection or quality.
The framework established here, balancing reuse with targeted investment in social and collaborative spaces, provides a template for future national rollouts. Right-sized, connected, and culturally aligned.
